Its $50/hr is above the $40/hr median of the Math & STEM roles open now, whose typical pay runs $35–$150/hr. How that pay moves week by week is in our research on Math & STEM work.

Half of all Math & STEM roles come down within 27.1 days of being listed, and 45.8% are still up after four weeks. This one was posted 330 days ago.

About the role

The work

You will create difficult, realistic data science problems based on end-to-end workflows across industries such as telecom, finance, government, e-commerce, and healthcare. The tasks should require substantial computation and careful reasoning, rather than being solvable by hand.

You will build and check solutions in Python, account for large-scale data and scalability, and explain the business context, problem, and verified answer clearly. Your work will help evaluate and train advanced AI systems on practical data science tasks.

  • Design deterministic problems involving data processing, statistical analysis, feature engineering, predictive modeling, and insight extraction.
  • Implement and verify solutions with pandas, NumPy, SciPy, scikit-learn, statsmodels, and related data science tools.
  • Document business contexts, problem statements, reasoning requirements, and correct answers in clear technical English.
  • Apply big-data and scalability considerations to computationally intensive workflows.

What it pays and takes

This is a part-time contractor role open worldwide. The work requires advanced data science experience and strong written English for precise technical documentation.

  • Pay: $50 per hour.
  • Schedule: Fewer than 20 hours per week.
  • Work arrangement: Part-time contract, worldwide.
  • Language: Advanced English at C1 level or higher.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of hands-on data science experience with demonstrable business impact.
  • Education: A master's degree or PhD in data science, statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field.
  • Technical skills: Expert Python for data science, including pandas, NumPy, SciPy, scikit-learn, and statsmodels; proficient SQL and database operations.
  • Knowledge: Strong statistics, machine learning algorithms, and real-world applications.
  • Valued experience: Generative AI, large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, prompt engineering, vector databases, MLOps, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and LangChain.
