About the role

About Fleet AI

Fleet AI builds training environments where AI agents practice real work and get graded on it. Our mechanical engineering projects use realistic problems to test how well those agents reason, use engineering tools, and produce physically valid results.

What you'll work on

Build mechanical engineering problems and reference solutions used to train and evaluate AI. Depending on the project, that can mean CAD, structural or thermal analysis, fluid flow, manufacturing drawings, or design validation. Outputs may include:

  • An engineering problem with the inputs, constraints, and files needed to solve it.
  • CAD models, drawings, calculations, or simulation results for a reference solution.
  • A short write-up of assumptions, boundary conditions, tradeoffs, and limitations.
  • Criteria for judging whether a solution is physically valid, safe, and feasible.
  • Reviews of AI-generated work that point out errors and why they matter.

Who we're looking for

  • Professional mechanical engineering experience, including designs taken through analysis, validation, or production.
  • Hands-on use of CAD or simulation tools such as SolidWorks, Fusion, FEA, or CFD software.
  • Sound judgment about physical constraints, failure modes, and where a model stops being reliable.
  • Clear technical writing that explains the result and the reasoning behind it.

How it works

  • Format: Remote contract, minimum 20 hours per week.
  • Location: Open worldwide.
  • Start: Work begins as soon as you're onboarded.
  • Terms: Scope, deliverables, fees, and an end date are agreed before each engagement starts. A Fleet project contact answers scoping questions and reviews deliverables against the agreed requirements.

Pay

  • Starting rate: $60–$100 USD per hour.
  • Increases: Up to $150 USD per hour based on the quality of your deliverables. Any increase is agreed before it takes effect.

How to apply

  • Apply with the form on this page.
  • Initial conversation.
  • Take-home engineering exercise, designed to take no more than three hours. Instructions are given before you start, and your submission is used only to assess fit.
  • Onboarding, then you start.

Where you can work

This role is 100% remote: you can work from anywhere in the world.
