AI Tutor - Math
About the role
SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today, SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of making life multiplanetary and expanding consciousness to the stars.
SpaceXSI is building Super Intelligence to help humanity understand the universe. Our teams are building the full Super Intelligence stack: from our Colossus supercomputers, to Grok models, to our suite of applications, including Grok Bot, Grok Build, Grok Imagine, Grok Voice, and X. We're creating a powerful flywheel where more compute trains better models, better models power more useful products, and what we learn from people using those products shapes what we build next.
ABOUT THE ROLE
In this role, you will help enhance Grok by providing high-quality data annotations, labels, and inputs focused on pure mathematics. You will draw on your expertise in areas such as abstract algebra, real and complex analysis, topology, graph theory, and other pure mathematics subfields, to evaluate model outputs, identify mathematical errors or gaps in reasoning, and produce clear, rigorous solutions and explanations. Your work will help train Grok to distinguish flawed or inadequately justified approaches from solutions that are mathematically sound, accurately modeled, and practically applicable.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Use proprietary software applications to annotate and label data for designated projects.
- Support the delivery of high-quality, accurate, and well-curated datasets that meet project standards.
- Collaborate with technical teams to develop and train new tasks, contributing to the successful development and implementation of innovative technologies and initiatives.
- Work closely with technical staff to improve the design, functionality, and efficiency of annotation tools and workflows.
- Solve problems across pure mathematics subfields aligned with your expertise, including abstract algebra, real and complex analysis, topology, graph theory, and related areas. Develop detailed solutions and critically evaluate AI-generated responses.
- Interpret, analyze, and execute tasks accurately in accordance with established guidelines and project requirements.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Meet one of the following criteria:
- A master’s degree or PhD in mathematics, with a specialization in a pure mathematics subfield; or
- A medal in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) or a comparable high-level mathematics competition.
- English proficiency at CEFR C1 level or higher.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Peer-reviewed publications in pure mathematics in reputable scientific journals.
- Previous experience in AI tutoring, AI model evaluation, or related applications of artificial intelligence.
- Teaching experience, particularly at the college or university level.
- Strong research skills, including the ability to navigate diverse information resources, academic databases, and technical literature.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Strong reading comprehension and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to exercise sound independent judgment when working with limited information.
